What is BPA?
-
BPA stands for a chemical known as bisphenol A, which is often used to make plastics "shatterproof." This chemical is currently under investigation by the Food and Drug Administration because there is reason to believe that it can interfere with a child's development if he or she is constantly exposed to the chemical. Some counties are even taking actions to ban the use of BPA in any products; however, the FDA investigation is still in progress. Even though this chemical has been known to have harmful effects since the 1930s, it wasn't until mid-2008 that the Food and Drug Administration took action to remove it from products. Many companies followed quickly, removing all products with traces of bisphenol A from their stores.
