Careers in health vary a great deal in responsibilities, education and training requirements, salaries and locations. In general, higher health care salaries are associated with more experience, specialization, education and locations with higher costs of living. Following is a list of the top five health salaries as of May 2007.

    Anesthesiologist

  1. Anesthesiologists are medical professionals that oversee or directly give anesthesia during medical procedures. The average salary for this job in 2007 was about $192,000.
  2. General Surgeon

  3. General surgeons may perform minimally invasive or major surgeries on a number of body parts. Their average salary in 2007 was about $191,000.
  4. Orthodontist

  5. Orthodontists work to straighten teeth and jaws by designing and applying items such as braces and mouthpieces. Their average salary in 2007 was $185,000.
  6. Obsetrician and Gynecologist

  7. Obstetricians and gynecologists, also known as OB/GYNs, specialize in reproductive medicine in females. Their average 2007 salary was $183,000.
  8. Oral Surgeon

  9. Oral surgeons work on the head, neck, jaws and teeth to remove growths, repair tissues after injuries or remove teeth. Their average salary in 2007 was $178,000.
