Types of Tanning Beds

Like most technology, tanning beds evolve over time. Just as the bulbs and the intensity of the rays have increased in many beds, others proportion the UVA and UVB rays to provide richer, deeper tans in shorter periods of time. Reflective lamps, stand-up booths and cooling systems provide even more options. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Standard

    • The standard, or conventional, tanning bed can only be used in short sessions, because its strong, unfettered UVB bulbs have a tendency to burn.

    High-Pressure

    • High-pressure tanning beds produce different ratios of tanning rays, providing just enough UVB to trigger melanin production and heavier doses of UVA rays to create a bronze glow in a short amount of time.

    Stand-Up

    • Stand-up tanning machines can't be called beds, because you don't lie down. A tan can be achieved even quicker and more evenly in the stand-up models with higher intensity bulbs and reflective walls.

    Super Nova

    • Produced by Ultrabronz, the Super Nova tanning booths provide comfortable beds with super-high UVB bulbs and 6-speed fans. The tanning results are quicker than ever, with a base tan created in only three 20-minute visits.

    Spray-On

    • To avoid exposure to cancer-producing tanning rays, most salons offer spray-on tanning options. Customers are sprayed with a mist containing dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which turns top-layer skin cells brown.
