Does this Spark an idea?
-
Seven Principles
-
The seven principles of interior design are unity, focal point, balance, proportion, rhythm, color and accents/details.
Function
-
When all seven principles of interior design are applied in the way they are intended, they work together to make your room and your home a cohesive, harmonious whole.
-
Identification of Unity and Focal Point
-
You can identify the principle of unity in your room if all the room's components work together and result in a pleasing effect. If the room has one aspect that draws the eye as soon as you walk into the room, you have identified the focal point.
Effects
-
Each design principle creates an effect that either enhances or detracts from the overall look you are trying to achieve. Color is the easiest one to change and creates a dramatic effect. A bright color adds vibrancy, a light color creates an airy effect, while dark colors set a somber mood.
Considerations
-
Too much of a good thing can create a look you don't want. For example, accent pieces you love may not work in the same room together, even if they all look good together in the showroom. Too many details can create a cluttered look, which negates the effect you are trying to achieve.
