Jobs for Creative & Serious Teens
Teens are looking for summer jobs that will be enjoyable, make a little money and gain them some experience in the workplace. There are several smaller niche markets that are perfect for serious teen workers. Here are a few suggestions.
-
Age and Creativity
-
In most states, teens may not enter the work place under the age of 14, but there are creative exceptions for youngsters under that age who work from home using an entrepreneurial creativity to provide products of their own making.
Some of these items can be greeting card production, hand crafts and even services usually relegated to older more experienced technicians, such as computer debugging or writing articles for online resources.
On Your Own Block
-
Many teens freelance as babysitters, newspaper or flyer distributors, or lawn care specialists. Some care for area pets.
-
Summer Camps
-
Summer camps always need an endless supply of teens and will employ a junior councilor when he turns 14. He will be in charge of prep work and less glamorous tasks until he proves worthy to move into higher areas of trust and competency.
Parks and Recreational Facilities
-
Check with local parks and recreation departments to see if there are slots open for lifeguards, pool maintenance personnel or general helpers. If you don't have lifeguard, first aid and CPR certifications, get them. You will be more employable with proper training.
Church Camps
-
Churches many times will run vacation Bible schools and often will employ a teen as a full-time helper. Although the camps are of short duration, they are plentiful.
Freelance Tutoring
-
Teaching a craft to youngsters during the summer months is a good way for an older teen to gain seasonal clientele. Tutoring can also involve life skills such as cooking or cleaning, sports skills or tutoring youngsters who need an academic boost before school starts again.
Internships
-
Internships usually don't pay a wage, but they are great for a teen's resume and can be an excellent learning opportunity. Next year they may hire you because you were so productive during your internship.
