Education

Although a degree isn't needed to become an assistant, certain courses should be taken beforehand. Courses in budgeting, household management, phone etiquette and party planning are the most beneficial.

Good Persuasion Skills

As a personal assistant, you may be asked to get a celebrity into a certain party or event. This will require persistent persuasion on your part; celebrities rarely take no for an answer.

Attention to Detail

Celebrity assistants may be asked to write or proofread certain correspondences. Personal assistants need to be able to pick out mistakes in grammar and spelling.

Be Internet Savvy

With Twitter, Myspace, Facebook and blogging becoming more popular, celebrities use these Internet technologies to communicate with their fans. Personal assistants must be able to use these sites to post messages for the celebrities.

Personal assistants live in the same glamorous world as the celebrities they work for. They must represent the celebrity with good fashion sense and a great personal style.
