The History of the Nissan Altima
The Nissan Altima is a mid-size car produced by Nissan of America since 1993. It is the successor of the Nissan Stanza, which has been produced since the mid-1950s. There have been four generations of the Altima.

The Nissan Altima was released in 1993, replacing the Nissan Stanza. Originally built in Smyrna, Tennessee, production was moved to Canton, Mississippi, for the fourth generation.
First Generation

The first generation was originally called the Nissan Stanza Altima. It was designed by the Nissan Design Center in California.

Second Generation

The second generation was released in 1998. Its design was freshened by the California Design Center. The interior was roomier and had a better glovebox and cupholders. However, it was criticized for having a lower-quality interior than the previous model.
Third Generation

The third generation debuted in 2002. The new Altima marked a change in styling for Nissan, as the car's shape and taillights were radically altered. The wheelbase was dramatically extended from the previous model.
Fourth Generation

The fourth generation debuted in 2006. It had a shorter wheelbase, and included new features like push-button starting and a backup camera. There is also a hybrid model on the market.
