What Is Deramaxx for Dogs?
Deramaxx (deracoxib) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) designed to reduce pain and inflammation in dogs who have problems caused by canine arthritis. Deramaxx belongs to the COX-2 inhibitor class of medications. It is designed for dogs only and should not be given to cats.

Deramaxx is used to reduce pain associated with surgery, as well as decrease tenderness, swelling and pain in joints. It is particularly effective against osteoarthritis, a degenerative disease. Deramaxx can also be used to reduce fever or stiffness as a result of hip dysplasia.
Dosage

Deramaxx comes in 25-mg, 75-mg or 100-mg chewable, beef-flavored tablets. The tablets are scored so they can be easily broken into smaller sizes. Deramaxx is available by prescription only from a veterinarian. It can be given with or without food and should be stored at room temperature. Deramaxx should not be used with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids.

Side effects of Deramaxx include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, change in drinking or urination habits and changes in behavior, such as depression or restlessness. More serious side effects include damage to the digestive system, kidneys or liver. If any of these side effects occur, stop the use of Deramaxx and consult your veterinarian.
