Foods That Cause Diarrhea in Dogs
Dogs can eat and enjoy a wide variety of foods. A high quality dog food will meet most dogs' specific nutritional needs. Dogs with allergies, lactose intolerance or health conditions unique to the breed will need some tweaking in their diets for optimal nutrition.

Deadly Foods
-
There are foods that all dogs should never eat. Chocolate, mushrooms, grapes and onions all can cause serious illness and even death if consumed.
Diarrhea
-
While not as deadly to your pet as the foods mentioned above, there are foods that will give a dog diarrhea. Diarrhea is unpleasant for both the pet owner and the dog, and can lead to further complications if not treated.
-
Rotten/Moldly Food or Garbage
-
Rotting or moldy food can contain bacteria that will upset a dog's digestive track, causing loose stools.
Milk and Dairy Products
-
Not all dogs are lactose intolerant. However, lactose-intolerant dogs will develop loose stools after consuming milk, cheese, ice cream or other milk-based products.
Raw Eggs
-
Raw eggs may be contaminated with salmonella. Because dogs have shorter digestive tracks, they are not as likely as humans to get salmonella poisoning after eating contaminated eggs, but the potential for illness still exists. It is safer to feed you pet cooked eggs.
Diarrhea Is a Symptom
-
Diarrhea is a symptom that something is wrong with your pet. Left untreated, prolonged diarrhea can lead to dehydration, organ failure and death. If diarrhea persists and your dog is lethargic or is running a fever, seek medical care right away.
