What Would Cause a Sudden Behavior Change in a Pet Cat?

Cats are creatures of habit, and any change in their behavior can be a signal of something serious. If there is no obvious reason for a pet cat to develop a sudden change in behavior, a visit to the vet is necessary.

  1. Stress

    • Cats do not like changes in their routine. Moving to a new home or introducing a new pet to a household can make a cat nervous and aggressive.

    Pain

    • If a cat suddenly becomes aggressive, there is a good chance that the animal may have an injury. Older cats may have developed arthritis.

    Loss of Vision or Hearing

    • Losing their hearing or eye sight can cause a cat to be come scared and fearful. This can be caused by a disease or by old age.

    Tooth Problems

    • Feeding a cat all canned food can cause dental problems, which can in turn cause major medical problems and pain. If a cat suddenly does not like to be picked up or becomes fearful, have the animal's teeth checked.

    Hyperthyroidism

    • Hyperthyroidism can cause a cat to become aggressive, nervous and hyperactive. Symptoms include increased drinking and sudden weight loss.
