What Are Wii Points?

Wii Points are the currency used in Nintendo's Wii shop Channel. These points can be redeemed for classic video games, new downloadable games and programs for the Wii console.

    Scale

  1. Wii Points can be purchased in $10 increments, good for 1,000 points. In other words, $1 is equal to 100 Wii Points.
  2. Significance

  3. Games in the Wii Shop Channel cost anywhere from 500 to 1,500 points.
  4. Where to Buy

  5. Wii Points can be purchased directly through the Wii Shop Channel, using a credit or debit card. Preloaded point cards, redeemable online, are also available from retailers, such as Gamestop.
  6. Fun Fact

  7. Wii Points may be used to send games to other Wii owners as gifts. This can be done from the same screen where games are purchased.
  8. Time Frame

  9. With the April 5, 2009, release date of Nintendo's DSi handheld, Wii Points have been renamed "Nintendo Points" for both the Wii Shop Channel and the DSWare Store. However, the points are not transferable between the two stores.
