Military Retirement Benefits for Spouses

Military spouses experience life in ways that civilian spouses can't fathom. Military families are provided with exceptional health care and the ability to travel to exotic destinations. After the member gives 15 to 20 years of his life, many ask what's in store and if they can maintain the same lifestyle after retiring. This lifestyle can be achieved by gathering information about the benefits the service member earned.

  1. Health Care

    • Tricare is the universal health care for military members and retirees. There are three programs: complete health care, dental and pharmaceutical coverage.

    Travel

    • Retired spouses can take advantage of Space A Travel at a low priority. Space A Travel covers military flights to OCONUS, CONUS destinations and military hotels. Flights are usually free or have a nominal fee to OCONUS destinations.

    Education

    • Military members can transfer the Montgomery GI Bill to spouses or dependents. The GI bill will cover up to 36 months of adult education.

    Identification Privileges

    • Retired spouses will obtain all commissary, exchange, theater, arts, automotive and all base store privileges.

    Moral Welfare and Recreation (MWR)

    • MWR has a plethora of outdoor equipment available for rent, including storage options for boats, recreational vehicles and trailers. Retires can save several hundreds of dollars by renting through MWR. MWR also provides discounts for travel and vacation for retired families.
