Hacky Sack Rules & Regulations

The modern game of hacky sack has its origins in games that were first played in many different cultures. The Chinese, Native Americans, natives of Thailand and many others had games that were played with small, normally soft, objects that bounced well. The rules and regulations have changed over the years, and depend on where the game is played.

Restrictions

Hands or arms cannot be used to touch the sack unless the individual is serving. The shoulders can be used in most hacky sack circles.

Courtsey Tosses

The act of lightly lobbing the sack toward the knee of the receiver is called a "courtesy toss."

No Bogarting

Never hold or hog the sack. Passing the sack to other players is an extremely important part of the game.

No Knee Passes

A pass that is sent to the receiver's knee will almost always end up landing on the ground. Passes that are aimed higher up are normally more successful.

History

The game of hacky sack, as we know it today, was developed in 1972 by Mike Marshall and John Stalberger.
