- Quilts have been made since at least ancient Egyptian times and possibly since before recorded history.
- Quilts are a bed covering that can come in an unlimited numbers of designs. Many are made from color blocks of various sizes either randomly arranged or arranged to create a larger pattern.
- A standard twin mattress in North America is 39 inches wide by 75 inches long. A twin quilt must be at least this size to cover the mattress, but most are larger to accommodate a drop on each side.
- Quilts that are made with a 12-inch drop on the sides of the mattress are generally made 64 inches wide by 99 inches long.
- A twin quilt constructed with 12-inch pattern blocks will need 42 blocks. If you are using 15-inch or 16-inch blocks, you will need 35. In a quilt with 18-inch blocks, you will need 24.
