Types of Wireless Networks

Wireless networks are essential to the function of technology. Networks are commonly associated with telecommunication systems. There are many wireless available to users and some require hubs or modems to work while some wireless networks can stand alone.

  1. Wireless Personal Area Networks

    • Bluetooth is the common WPAN. It can exchange information over wireless waves with a Bluetooth device.

    Wireless Local Area Network

    • Wi-Fi is the term mostly associated with WLAN. It allows connection to the Internet and other electronic devices.

    Wirelss Metropolitan Area Networks

    • For larger buildings or spaces, the WMAN is used to connect the WLAN's together. Wireless technology will connect to the closest WLAN.

    Global Positionin System

    • GPS, as it is commonly called, is a navigation tool that helps the user find their destination. It finds a triangulation of signals and airwaves to the device.

    Cell Phones

    • A variety of cell phones have wireless capability allowing the user to browse the internet or use it as a computer.
