- Each suit in the deck rules a different area of life. The hearts represent emotions, clubs your career, spades mean conflict and diamonds are finances.
- When reading playing cards, each of the numbers have a general meaning, regardless of the suit of the card. You can find a chart of the general numerical meanings online (see Resources).
- To read ordinary playing cards, combine the meaning of the suit with the meaning of the number. For example, the Five of Hearts combines "emotions" with "conflict" so it could be interpreted as a fight with a lover.
- The Court Cards---the Jacks, Queens and Kings of each suit---usually represent people in your life. Jacks are teens or young people. Queens and Kings are mature men and women.
- Generally, cards should be interpreted as part of a whole reading rather than as individual cards that stand on their own. If you lay the cards out in a spread, consider the meaning of each position when you read its interpretation.
