High-definition television, more commonly known as HD television or HDTV, is a type of television that broadcasts exceptionally clear video of high quality. These are quickly becoming popular electronics for home theater systems, especially as more advanced digital television systems are being used. These use up less bandwidth, which makes the entire system more convenient and easier to use.

The first HD television was developed in 1969 in Japan, but it wasn't until 1981 that the technology was introduced in the United States. Even though the technology was around for a while, HD television sets were not available for wide purchase and sales until the late 1990s.
