Causes of Acne Cysts
Cystic acne is a more severe form of acne. Though there are some suspected causes of cystic acne, there is no one identified cause. The cysts can be painful, inflamed, filled with pus and much larger than normal acne blemishes.

Genetics
-
The main cause of cystic acne is genetic. Acne itself is a genetically linked condition. If cystic acne runs in the family, an individual is more likely to encounter it during his lifetime.
Hormones
-
Hormones are another cause of cystic acne, especially during puberty, when hormones increase the production of oil that can clog pores and cause acne. This, along with genetics, can contribute to cystic acne conditions.

Squeezing
-
Squeezing a pimple may further aggravate the blemish. Squeezing is one of the worst things one can do to a pimple. Squeezing allows more bacteria to enter the pimple, and can cause it to form a cyst.
Skin Care Products
-
Skin care products that are greasy or contain oil can cause cystic acne.
Harsh Cleansers
-
Washing too often and using a cleanser that is too harsh will actually worsen cystic acne.
