Types of Marbles

Marbles are small, colorful spheres made of materials such as clay, plastic or glass. They are often collected by kids and played with on the playground. There are a number of different types of marbles. There are different sizes, designs, colors and materials used to make them. The following are five of the more common types of marbles.

    Cat's Eye

  1. The cat's eye marble is made of an opaque glass, colored or clear. Injected into the middle is an insert of a different color that makes the marble look like the eye of a cat.
  2. Commie

  3. These are also known as common marbles and are the most traditional. They are small, made of clay and not colored or decorated in any way.
  4. Steely

  5. Steely marbles are made of steel. They are sometimes colored and are heavier than most other types of marbles.
  6. Bumbo

  7. Bumbo is the name given to the largest of all marbles. A large marble is called a bumbo regardless of its color, pattern or composition.
  8. Crystals

  9. Crystals are marbles that are made of glass. They come from all over the world and are made in different colors and designs. They are not played with much because they chip and dent easily.
