Typical Food in Barcelona

Food in Barcelona is typified by a mix of influences, ranging from France and the Basque region to Greece and beyond. As may be expected from a city near the Mediterranean, there is a great deal of seafood. Spanish meals like tapas are also common.

    • Outdoor markets such as La Boqueria which houses the Kiosko Universal are a good place to have lunch, which is usually eaten at 2 p.m. A typical meal may consist of seafood and mushrooms, like grilled turbot and razor clams with wild mushrooms.

    Dinner

    • Dinner in Spain is usually eaten at 10 p.m. and may consist of a variety of dishes like fideua. This meal is similar to paella except that is made of a short, thin noodle called fideus rather than rice.

    Tapas

    • Tapas can include a wide mixture of foods such a meat and cooked vegetables served with wine.

    Wines and Desserts

    • Cava Catalan is a typical wine. Crema catalana is a "ubiquitous" custard-like dessert, according to WhatBarcelona.com (see Resources).
