ASA Rules for Playing Softball

The ASA, or American Softball Association, has rules that must be followed in order to play softball for an ASA-related organization. They are a non-profit organization based out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

  1. Age

    • The minimum age requirement is 9 years old, and the player has the option to play in slow-pitch or fast-pitch softball. There is no maximum age limit.

    Handicaps

    • No player, under any circumstances, can play with a handicap unless approved through the local ASA branch. Handicap notice must be made during registration.

    Bunting

    • There is no bunting allowed in ASA softball. Bunting is an unswung bat that makes contact with the ball. An incidental swing that forces the ball in play is allowed.

    Payment

    • Each team and individual is required to pay a fee to play. Total cost of play is determined by the age group and type of softball being played.

    Equipment

    • ASA-certified equipment is required to play for ASA-related games. The ASA insignia is applied to all ASA-certified equipment.
