About Skin Care Products for Age Spots

Age spots have many names---liver spots, sunspots, brown spots, freckles or skin discolorations. While these spots are unsightly to many people they are also harmless. Age spots are the result of skin damage from the sun. Most age spots appear on the hands and face and usually appear at age 50. There are natural remedies and over-the counter drugs to fade or eliminate age spots.

  1. Lemon Juice

    • Lemon juice is bleach. It is also made of citric acid which gently exfoliates the top layer of the skin to lighten age spots.

    Apple Cider Vinegar

    • Vinegars are natural products that contain ascetic acid. When applied to skin this mild acid fades age spots by exfoliation.

    Hydrogen Peroxide

    • The hydrogen peroxide sold in drug stores is a strong bleach that fades age spots.

    Fade Creams

    • There are many fade creams on the market that are designed to fade age spots. Most of these contain 2 percent hydroquinone, a skin lightening substance. A doctor can give you prescription strength hydroquinone like Porcelana.

    Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs)

    • These products are fruit acids that gently slough off the top layer of skin and help to reduce age spots. By using these acids you can have an at-home chemical peel. AHAs are sold online and at skin care centers.
