About the Canadian Flag

The Canadian flag, officially called the National Flag of Canada, was adopted in Canada to replace the previous flag, the Union flag. Although the flag's emblem, the maple leaf, was not officially associated with Canada until its inclusion on the national flag, it was used historically as a Canadian symbol. During a visit by the Prince of Wales in 1860, Canadians chose to wear a maple leaf attached to their clothing as a symbol of their love for, and pride in, their country.
