The First "Wish Kid"
-
The first Make-A-Wish child was seven-year-old Christopher James Grecius. He suffered from luekemia, but dreamed of becoming a police officer. The Arizona Department of Public Safety arranged for a department helicopter ride for Chris along with a tailored uniform for him to wear. He even took a motorcycle proficiency exam on a battery-operated motorcycle. Four days after his helicopter tour, Grecius passed away.
Inspiration
-
Chistopher James Grecius became the inspiration for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Two Arizona officers along with Chris's mother created the Make-A-Wish Foundaton with the hope of bringing happiness to those in pain.

Eligibility
-
Kids can be referred to the Make-A-Wish Foundation by parents, medical professionals or by nominating themselves. They have to be medically eligible, which means they have to have a life-threatening, but not necessarily terminal, medical condition.
Medical Concerns
-
The foundation's staff and the child's physician work together to make sure that the child's wish is safe and appropriate considering the child's illness.
Types of Wishes
-
Most wishes will fall into one of four categories: I wish to go to, I wish to be, I wish to meet or I wish to have. The Make-A-Wish Foundation's staff works with children to help them determine a wish that will bring the child happiness, while inspiring the child, their family and their community.
