Dangers of Human Growth Hormone

Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is a naturally occurring hormone that is released by the pituitary gland while we are sleeping. It is associated with bone and tissue growth, particularly in children. HGH is often administered to children who are suffering from growth disorders. It is also now being used in anti-aging clinics. Studies have provided information that HGH can have positive effects in muscle growth and fat loss. There is a black market demand for growth hormone, as it is not legal or readily available in many places. Improper use or abuse of the drug has been linked to dangerous and lethal side effects.

  1. Acromegaly

    • This is the most common side effect associated with the use of HGH. The condition includes an overgrowth of the facial bones and skin, particularly in the jaw and brow region. Enlarged feet and hands, as well as increased body hair growth, are also associated with acromegaly.

    Enlarged Heart

    • An enlarged heart is often associated with the use of HGH. HGH is used to stimulate growth in all internal organs except the brain. Continued use can create enlarged organs, which can be extremely dangerous or fatal.

    Diabetes

    • A 2007 study at Stanford found that the use of HGH increases the risk of developing diabetes in men 50 years and older.

    Joint Pain

    • There are reports of mild to severe joint pain among users of HGH, especially those involved in weight training.

    Cancer

    • A study in the United Kingdom has linked HGH to breast, lung and colon cancer. It also found an increased mortality rate among those diagnosed with cancer.
