What Are the Benefits of Distance Learning?
Distance learning is a form of education that does not require students to attend physical classes. Students and teachers communicate via other methods, typically online in chat rooms and via email. There are a number of benefits to distance learning.
-
Convenience
-
With distance learning, you can learn right at home. If you order your materials online, the only time you will need to leave the house for school is for your final.
Flexibility
-
One of the greatest benefits to distance learning is the flexibility. Distance learning allows you to work around your own schedule. On occasion, you may have a "live" online meeting, but generally throughout the week you are free to work at your own pace.
-
Cost
-
Online classes are often cheaper, plus you save money on gas and food since you never have to leave the house.
Choice
-
If you live in a small town with few to no educational institutions, distance learning gives you the freedom of choice.
Employment
-
If you work full-time, distance learning is an excellent choice because of the convenient and flexible schedule that won't interfere with your job. Plus, you can save hours a week by not having to attend classes.
Considerations
-
Keep in mind that distance learning requires students to be highly motivated since you design your schedule and you don't get the same level of student/teacher interaction. If motivation is an issue, distance learning may not be right for you.
