What Is Rimadyl?
Rimadyl (also known as carprofen) is a canine pain reliever. Rimadyl is a 24-hour, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) administered once daily to relieve pain and inflammation caused by surgery or arthritis.

Rimadyl is manufactured by Pfizer Animal Health. It is only available through a prescription from a veterinarian.
Dosage

Rimadyl comes in three forms: non-chewable caplet, injection and chewable tablet. It can be given as a single full dose once per day, or divided in half and dispensed twice per day. Rimadyl should be given with food. It is only designed for dogs 6 weeks of age or older, and should never be given to cats.

Rimadyl can be used for the short-term alleviation of joint pain or surgical inflammation. It can also be used as a daily, long-term remedy for pain, swelling and tenderness caused by hip dysplasia, arthritis, and other bone and joint problems.

Possible Side Effects

Possible side effects include bloody stool or vomit, an allergic reaction, open sores in the mouth, rapid weight gain brought on by fluid retention, muscle (including abdominal) cramps and seizures. Stop giving Rimadyl and seek emergency veterinary medical attention if these side effects occur.
