Advantages of Neutering Your Dog
Neutering is a surgical procedure during which the testicles of the dog are removed. A veterinarian conducts the neuter surgery quickly and with anesthesia. Veterinarians can perform neuter surgery on dogs beginning at approximately 8 weeks of age. Neutering a dog has many benefits.
-
Less Roaming
-
Neutered dogs are less likely to roam because they are not looking for females in heat.
Less Marking
-
Neutered dogs are less likely to mark territory with urine. In addition, a neutered male dog's urine does not smell as strongly as that of an unaltered male dog.
-
Less Cancer
-
Neutered dogs are less likely to develop anal gland cancer or prostate cancer. They will not develop testicular cancer.
Less Aggression
-
Neutered dogs are less aggressive than intact dogs. A neutered male dog is less likely to get into a dogfight.
Fewer Unwanted Pets
-
Neutered dogs cannot impregnate female dogs. Pet overpopulation will be reduced as the number of neutered dogs increases.
