Musical Games for Kids
Children love music and they love to play games set to music. These games are very good for children's mental development. Here are five games to play with your child to music.
-
Rocking to the Rhythm
-
Sit facing your child, with your legs eagle-spread. Hold onto your child's hands. Rock back and forth while singing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat." This can be done with other rhyming songs as well.
Musical Chairs
-
Set up one less chair than there are people. Have the children walk in a circle around the chairs while music is playing. When the music stops, each child should try to find a chair to sit in. The child left without a seat is out of the game until there is only one person left in the seat.
-
Ring Around the Rosie
-
The children all hold hands and dance in a circle while singing, "Ring around the rosie, pocketful of posies, upstairs, downstairs, we all fall down!" When singing "we all fall down," the children fall down.
Freeze!
-
Play music and stop it suddenly. When the music stops, have the child stop moving in a funny pose until the music comes back on.
The Hokey Pokey
-
Children sing while putting part of their body "in" and "out" and shaking it all around while singing. "Put your left foot in, put your left foot out, put your left foot in and you shake it all about. You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around, that's what it's all about." The children do this with each of their body parts until they're finally putting their whole body in and out and shaking it all about.
