Types of Purple Flowers

Whether designing your garden or a floral arrangement, there are hundreds of flowers to choose from. Purple flowers make wonderful accents in gardens, on tables or in bouquets. If gardening, always keep in mind a flower's durability, peak time and how suited it is for your environment.

    Purple Tulips

  1. Tulips, with their large bulbous flowers and thick stems and leaves, are popular spring flowers often used in floral arrangements. If planting, be sure to plant before the ground freezes. They typically bloom in spring, but certain kinds of tulips will bloom later.
  2. Purple Toad Lilies

  3. Toad lilies are perennials that bloom in the fall. The unique flowers come in varying shades of purple with specks of darker purple within, and make for an impressive floral arrangement.
  4. Purple Sweet Pea Flowers

  5. The sweet peas flower is known for its butterfly shape, fragrance and soft, velvety petals. Plant your sweet peas in the spring, where they can get a good amount of sun.
  6. Purple Hydrangeas

  7. Hydrangeas are tiny flowers that cluster together in a sphere shape. They don't do well in extreme heat.
  8. Purple Phlox

  9. Phlox are great cluster flowers that can grow between 2 and 3 feet and are best planted in full sunlight. They can bloom up to six weeks each year, typically beginning mid-summer.
