Side Effects of Clavamox in Dogs
Clavamox is a broad-spectrum oral antibiotic commonly given to dogs to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including severe skin wounds, cellulitis, abscesses and lesions, pneumonia and infections of the mouth, skin, bones and bladder. It can also be used to "preempt" infection and is often given following a dental cleaning or surgery. Clavamox is generally considered very safe, but like with all medications, some side effects can occur.

Vomiting

About 10 percent of dogs vomit after taking Clavamox. It is best to administer Clavamox immediately following a full meal. If vomiting continues even with food, call your veterinarian.
Diarrhea

It is common for dogs to experience loose stools or diarrhea with Clavamox. If the diarrhea is severe or lasts longer than 3 days, contact your veterinarian.

Yeast or Fungal Infection

A yeast or fungal infection can affect your dog's skin and mucous membranes. Symptoms include rash, itchy patches and inflamed, flaky pimples.
Loss of Appetite

Most dogs will continue to eat while taking Clavamox, but some loss of appetite can occur. If, however, your dog will not eat at all or seems lethargic, contact your veterinarian immediately.
Allergic Reaction

Less common but more serious side effects are rash; swelling of the lips, face or limbs; hives; shortness of breath; rapid heart beat and fainting. If any of these occur, call your veterinarian immediately.
Warning

Avoid dangerous drug interactions. Before administering Clavamox, tell your veterinarian if your dog is taking any other medications, supplements or herbal remedies.
