The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in 2006 Registered Nurses had median annual earnings of $57,280. The lowest 10 percent earned about $40,000 a year, while the highest 10 percent earned more than $83,000 a year.
BLS reports that in 2006, Registered Nurses in hospitals had a median annual salary of more than $58,000, while those in nursing care centers and doctors' offices had median annual salaries of $52,490 and $53,800, respectively.
Some studies of compensation for Registered Nurses suggest that their salaries result from a combination of higher hourly wages and longer working hours than other health care occupations.
