Advantage flea medication is a topical monthly flea treatment for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens packaged in pre-measured vials based on the animal's weight.
Effects

The main ingredient in Advantage flea medication is imidacloprid, which paralyzes and ultimately kills the active fleas along with flea larvae, preventing hatching and infestation.

Time Frame

Adult fleas and larvae will begin to die within an hour of application, and after 12 hours, the majority of fleas will be dead.
Prevention/Solution

Advantage is available in 3- or 6-month supplies for dogs and puppies ranging from 10 lbs. to over 55 lbs., kittens and cats weighing up to 9 lbs., and cats weighing over 9 lbs.
Warning

Do not apply Advantage flea medication to pets that are nursing, ill or debilitated without first having the pets examined by a veterinarian. Puppies must be at least 7 weeks old and kittens at least 8 weeks old before applying Advantage.
