If a freelance photographer is shooting with a digital camera, there is no need to set up a darkroom to start making money with the camera. The quality of the digital camera will determine which freelance job a talented photographer can tackle.

    Microstock

  1. Photographers can sell their digital images online at sites such as iStock, Shuttertock or Fotilia.. Price per download of microstock is minimal, but one image can sell over and over again.
  2. Stock

  3. Experienced photographers can sell their images to major stock photo companies, such as Corbis. Pay is much higher than microstock and the images must be of the highest quality.
  4. Weddings

  5. Photographers can make a career by shooting wedding photographs. Weddings provide the opportunity for a formal shoot and a casual "candid" reception shoot.
  6. Media

  7. Photographers can make a career selling images to media outlets. Photos might be of celebrities, nature, news or sports events.
  8. Groups

  9. Photographers can take group pictures for schools, reunions and businesses. Instead of using a studio, the photographer goes to the site.
  10. Portraits

  11. Portraits are needed by professionals, such as real estate agents. Setting up a photo booth at events sponsored by professional organizations can bring in work.
  12. Events

  13. Working events as an official event photographer is one way for a freelance photographer to make a career.
