Dangers of Leptoprin

Leptoprin, also called Anorex or Bontril (generic phendimetrazine), is a medication used for weight loss. Available by a doctor's prescription, leptoprin is given to obese patients who use it along with dieting and exercise to lose weight. Leptoprin is a stimulant similar to amphetamines that can become habit forming and cause serious and life-threatening side effects.

    Cardiac

  1. Leptoprin can raise heart rate and blood pressure to dangerous levels, and is not recommended for use in people with heart disease or hypertension.
  2. Vision

  3. Blurry or double vision are side effects of leptoprin that can be dangerous for people attempting to drive or operate machinery.
  4. Allergic Reactions

  5. Severe allergic reactions to leptoprin include symptoms such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the throat, lips, mouth and face, and hives.
  6. Neurological

  7. People who experience neurological effects including hallucinations, confusion and abnormal behavior while taking leptoprin should seek urgent medical treatment.
  8. Insomnia

  9. Problems with falling asleep, waking through the night, restlessness and anxiety are side effects of leptoprin that can be dangerous in people with other medical conditions such as depression.
  10. Drug Interactions

  11. According to drugs.com, leptoprin may cause dangerous drug interactions with antidepressants, insulin and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). (see Resources below.)
  12. Withdrawal

  13. Because leptoprin is habit forming, physical and mental withdrawal symptoms such as dangerous changes in blood pressure may occur after stopping use.
