Wire Transfer Instructions

Wire transfers are expensive, but convenient. In some cases, there is no other way to get money to another bank account within a 24-hour period. If you're in a rush to transfer money from bank to bank, whether they are both your accounts or the transfer is going to someone else, you need to be sure that you are giving the bank all of the correct information and instructions needed to complete the wire transfer successfully.

  1. Account Information

    • You must give your routing number and account number in order for a wire transfer to be completed.

    In-Person Instructions

    • Some outgoing wire transfer instructions must be given in person at your bank, while others can be done over the phone.

    Foreign Wire Transfers

    • When doing a wire transfer to a foreign company, you can instruct the bank to send money in U.S. dollars or the currency of the other country.

    Receiving Instructions

    • When doing an instant money wire transfer, you can add a password to the transfer so that the receiver can give that information in place of identification to receive the cash.

    IBAN

    • To give wire transfer instructions for sending money overseas, you need to know the other bank's SWIFT code (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) and the account holder's IBAN number (International Bank Account Number)
