Upholstery Tools

Upholstery needs to be done with special tools. They need to be able to fit into small spaces and work with all types of materials. Even the upholstery tools that resemble regular tools have something different about them that makes them suitable for just their one special job.

  1. Air Staplers

    • Different air staplers take different-sized staples. The size depends on the type of fabric. For instance, vinyl fabric needs to be attached with a ½-inch staple, while cloth fabrics need a 3/8-inch staple.

    Foam Cutters

    • Foam cutters come in 8-inch and 12-inch sizes. They are used to cut polyfoam or foam rubber for back and seat cushions.

    Regulators

    • A regulator is a long, thin metal rod with a handle on one end. It is used for pushing stuffing in the corners and curved parts of chairs and sofas.

    Upholstery Hammers

    • Upholstery hammers have small heads that are also magnetic so they can hold the tacks in place. The most expensive are made of bronze.

    Webbing Stretchers

    • Webbing stretchers hold the seat webbing tightly and allow it to be stretched as tight as possible. They have pins that go into the material.

    Webbing Pliers

    • Webbing pliers are another choice for stretching webbing, but they grab hold of the end of the material with extra-wide lips instead of the pins.
