A home should be a sanctuary, not a chemical factory. One should not have to worry about the chemicals resting on various surfaces as a result of cleaning products. Making your own homemade cleaning solutions is good for your family and for the environment.

  1. White Vinegar

    • For a general cleaning spray, mix 1 cup of white vinegar with 1 cup of water. This can be used to clean everything from bathroom grout to hardwood floors.

    Baking Soda

    • Mix three parts baking soda to one part water to make a paste out of baking soda. Put some paste on a difficult stain in the kitchen or bathroom, let stand for five minutes, and then wipe the surface clean.

    Rubbing Alcohol

    • Rubbing alcohol can be used to clean mirrors and windows. Mix 1 cup alcohol, 1 cup water and 1 tablespoon white vinegar, spray liberally on glass surfaces, then wipe clean.

    Olive Oil and Lemon

    • Mix 1 cup olive oil and 1/2 cup lemon juice to make a natural furniture polish.

    Cream of Tartar

    • Sprinkle some cream of tartar on a damp cloth and use this to clean porcelain.
