Everyday styling and beauty treatments can take a toll on your hair, and even cause damage. Using homemade remedies like a deep conditioner -- or a salon product like a shine gloss -- can help renew your hair's shine. You can also take steps each day to prevent damage from occurring. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Hair Breakage

    • Breakage in hair occurs daily, which is natural and is not an alarming sign unless you lose more than 70 to 100 strands per day.

    Brushing

    • Brushing 100 strokes through the hair every night is not a myth, as it does boost scalp circulation and distributes the healthy oils to the ends as well. However, be gentle and use a natural fiber brush.

    Heat

    • Using hair dryers, straighteners and curling tongs daily does more to damage your hair than almost anything else. Avoid using too much of these tools, and use a good hair serum before you do use them.

    Shampoos and Conditioners

    • Shampooing actually dries the hair of the beneficial oils, and might even induce hair loss. Use shampoos sparingly, while conditioners should be applied generously over the entire hair length, especially the ends.

    Hair Dyes

    • Dying hair may be fun, but the harsh chemicals involved completely destroy the hair shaft, leaving it dry and potentially causing hair to fall out in the long run.
