The Yaz pill is an oral contraceptive for the prevention of pregnancy. Is it right for you? There is always concern about the safety and effectiveness of birth control methods. Here are the pros and cons of this pill.

    Effectiveness

  1. Consistent with other forms of oral contraceptives, it is 99 percent effective when used properly. Yaz must be taken on a daily basis.
  2. PMDD

  3. The Yaz birth control pill helps with the treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a severe emotional or physical condition that disrupts normal everyday life during menstruation (extreme mood swings, depression, sleep disorder or anxiety).
  4. Health Issues

  5. Yaz contains a hormone that increases potassium in your body. This can be a serious concern for individuals with kidney, liver or adrenal disease problems.
  6. Ovulation Control

  7. Like other oral contraceptives, Yaz prevents ovulation. The risk of cancerous ovarian cysts is reduced.
  8. Periods and Acne

  9. Individuals taking Yaz may have lighter periods with less cramping. It can also help reduce the frequency of acne breakouts.
  10. Side Effects

  11. Some side effects of the Yaz birth control pill include a decrease in sexual appetite, vaginal dryness and possible weight gain.
