Negative Effects of Botox

Botox is a popular form of cosmetic surgery that is used for reducing and smoothing out facial wrinkles. It is, in fact, one of the fastest-growing of all cosmetic procedures available today, outstripping even breast enhancement in popularity. Botox is also widely used for a number of non-cosmetic purposes. Like most medications, however, there are a number of side effects that may be experienced from the use of this drug.

Soreness and Swelling

A common side effect is some soreness, swelling and even bruising at the site of the Botox injection. This is usually temporary, however.

Rash and Itching

A rash may develop at the injection site, along with some itching. In extreme cases, the injection site may bleed and get infected.

Upper Respiratory Infection

An upper respiratory infection may set in, which can manifest in a fever and sometimes flu-like symptoms such as a runny or stuffy nose.

Droopy Eyelids

The Botox procedure may result in drooping eyelids and eyebrows. This is usually temporary and resolves itself within 1 or 2 weeks.

Dry Mouth

You may experience a dryness of the mouth and some difficulty swallowing.

Allergic Reaction

You may have an allergic reaction to Botox that manifests in hives, wheezing, difficulty breathing and unexplained swelling.
