Negative Effects of Botox

Botox is a popular form of cosmetic surgery that is used for reducing and smoothing out facial wrinkles. It is, in fact, one of the fastest-growing of all cosmetic procedures available today, outstripping even breast enhancement in popularity. Botox is also widely used for a number of non-cosmetic purposes. Like most medications, however, there are a number of side effects that may be experienced from the use of this drug.

  1. Soreness and Swelling

    • A common side effect is some soreness, swelling and even bruising at the site of the Botox injection. This is usually temporary, however.

    Rash and Itching

    • A rash may develop at the injection site, along with some itching. In extreme cases, the injection site may bleed and get infected.

    Upper Respiratory Infection

    • An upper respiratory infection may set in, which can manifest in a fever and sometimes flu-like symptoms such as a runny or stuffy nose.

    Droopy Eyelids

    • The Botox procedure may result in drooping eyelids and eyebrows. This is usually temporary and resolves itself within 1 or 2 weeks.

    Dry Mouth

    • You may experience a dryness of the mouth and some difficulty swallowing.

    Allergic Reaction

    • You may have an allergic reaction to Botox that manifests in hives, wheezing, difficulty breathing and unexplained swelling.
