Building maintenance workers help keep the infrastructure clean and in working order. The larger the building, the more responsibility the worker has. Building maintenance workers often have their job go unnoticed but if it wasn't for them, the building would deteriorate and be a maze of necessary repairs.
Building maintenance workers must be observant. Sometimes the repairs are brought to their attention by a work order, but quite often the building maintenance worker discovers the problem personally.
The obvious and the most important duty for building maintenance workers is repairing damaged property or machines inside the building. Excellent maintenance workers do the repair quickly and effectively.
New equipment or machines will enter the building often, perhaps everyday. The building maintenance worker often assists in bringing in the equipment, as well as setting it up and ensuring that it runs properly.
Maintenance workers will repair broken or damaged infrastructure inside or outside the building, as well as perform scheduled maintenance to test the asset and predict how long it will be before it needs to be replaced. Maintenance schedules vary with daily, weekly and monthly tasks.
Building administrators will often ask the maintenance worker's advice on certain repairs or installations. Maintenance workers can also request new tools or replace outdated ones.
