- Rash symptoms for infants with food allergies typically result in eczema, causing dry, scaly patches on the face, arms or legs. The rash can look like hives.
- In addition to rash symptoms, the baby may also have facial swelling, wheezing, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Any symptoms usually appear within 2 hours of eating the allergy-causing food.
- Rashes in babies with food allergies tend to appear less often by 1 year of age, and the allergies then usually are signified by respiratory issues.
- Infants can develop a rash reaction to a particular type of food even if they have eaten it before with no problems.
- If the infant seems to have trouble breathing, has facial swelling, or if the vomiting or diarrhea is severe, the caretaker should call 911 or the pediatrician immediately.
