AA Degree Guidelines
Associates of Arts degrees are offered at many four-year universities and community and junior colleges. They can be specialized degrees or can be applied toward a four-year degree.

The Core Subjects for Obtaining an Associates of Arts

Core subjects include the following:
Two semesters of English Composition;
One semester of American History;
One semester of Political Science;
One laboratory science and one observational science;
One Mathematics class (does not include remedial math);
Two Humanities (check local college for what qualifies).
Electives in the Associates Degree

Electives can range from Business Administration classes to in-depth mathematics classes. Check each college's requirements for the electives.

Number of College Hours to Obtain an Associates Degree

This will differ depending on the college or university you attend. They can range from 60 to 69 hours.
Other Associate Degrees Offered

There are many variations of the Associates degree and they are are confined to just the Associates of Arts. Regardless of the Associates degree being pursued, the core subjects must be taken in order to fulfill requirements.
Transfering Hours

Upon obtaining the Associates of Arts degree from a junior or community college, the option to transfer hours to a public or private four-year university is available. Check with the public or private university nearby to determine what semester hours will be transferable.
