Dental Radiology Assistant Requirements

Dental radiology involves taking x-rays of the teeth and jaw required by dentists, malpractice insurance carriers and dental insurance carriers before any dental treatment can be rendered. It is not a separate entity and is included in the job description of dental hygienists and dental assistants.

      • Dental assistants must complete a certification program that includes courses in radiology (x-rays). Some states require dental assistants to be licensed, registered, to complete a Radiation Health and Safety examination or to pass a state-approved course in radiology.
