Minimum Requirements for Windows XP

When you have a computer, you have a choice between several different operating systems, including products from Microsoft, Apple and Linux. In the past decade, the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, released in 2001, has been one of the most popular choices. If you want to use this software, you need a computer that can handle the processes and memory usage it requires.

Processor

Windows XP can run on a 233 MHz processor, but Microsoft recommends 300 MHz or higher.

RAM

Have at least 64 MB RAM, but 128 MB RAM or more is recommended.

Resolution

Use a monitor that can produce a 800 by 600 pixel resolution or larger.

Hard Drive Space

Have at least 5 GB of space free for Windows XP.

Disc Drives

A CD-ROM or DVD drive is required in order to install the Windows XP operating system.

Input Devices

You'll need a mouse and a keyboard to adequately make use of this Microsoft operating system.
