Herbs & Acid Reflux Disease

The body produces acid to help the stomach's digestive process. When excess acid is produced, it can back up and flow backward into the esophagus--causing "heartburn." This acid backup, or Acid Reflux Disease, is treatable with over-the-counter and prescription medicines. Herbs are a natural alternative to treating Acid Reflux Disease. Herbs help reduce the need and consumption of expensive and strong medicines. Herbs can be added to foods, found in teas and used in powder forms.

  1. Ginger Root

    • Ginger Root is the oldest and safest herb available to cure Acid Reflux Disease. Ginger Root has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and analgesic properties. Ginger Root, which can also treat nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, is found in powders and teas and used as a food garnish.

    Black Pepper

    • Black Pepper stimulates digestions and improves gastric circulation. Black Pepper, which is an aromatic herb, is added to foods in small amounts.

    Pimpali

    • Pimpali is the best herb for use in treating acid reflux. Pimpali improves digestion levels while detoxifying and cleaning the digestive system. Pimpali is added to recipes, but high doses easily overpower the taste of food.

    Licorice

    • Licorice acts like an anti-inflammatory effect in the digestive system. It is used to treat ulcers and wounds in the mucous membrane. Licorice, which acts like an antacid, can be found in powder forms and in teas.

    Indian Gooseberry

    • Indian Gooseberry is a fruit that helps treat indigestion and Acid Reflux Disease. Indian Gooseberry is also know for its antioxidant content that helps decrease stomach acid secretion.
