Symptoms of Type-A Influenza

Type-A influenza, or the flu, is the most common form of the influenza virus. It is also considered the most dangerous since the ever-evolving quality of type-A influenza strains can lead to severe flu epidemics. Type-A influenza symptoms typically appear 1 to 4 days after an individual has been infected. The most common symptoms of type-A influenza are listed here.

  1. Chills

    • Chills are often the first sign a person has been infected with the type-A influenza virus. Flu sufferers typically feel a chilly sensation and might even start shivering.

    Aches

    • Type-A influenza can cause moderate to severe body aches and headaches. The body aches are usually felt all over the body, and can be particularly painful in the back, arms and legs.

    Fever

    • Another common symptom of type-A influenza is fever. Patients typically run fevers between 101 to 103 degrees F, and a child's fever might run even even higher.

    Fatigue

    • Type-A influenza strains make patients feel extremely weak and tired. The fatigue typically lasts for 3 to 10 days.

    Respiratory Symptoms

    • Type-A influenza is a respiratory virus. Patients usually experience scratchy and sore throats, coughing, runny or stuffy noses and congestion.

    Warning

    • While the type-A influenza virus can infect anyone, the very young, the very old and people with weakened immune systems run a greater risk of catching the flu.
