Calcium is an important mineral to the human body. Its predominant role is in the formation of the matrix for bones and teeth, but it has other functions as well. However, excess calcium intake and osteoporosis can increase the amount of calcium in the blood, which can lead to many health problems. Excess calcium intake is often caused by taking too many calcium supplements.

    Calcium Storage Locations

  1. The vast majority (about 99 percent) of calcium is stored in our bones and teeth. The rest circulates in the bloodstream
  2. Kidney Stones

  3. Too much calcium in the blood can lead to the accumulation of calcium aggregates in the kidney or gall bladder.
  4. Nails and Skin

  5. Excess calcium can also be absorbed by the skin and nails, leading to small hard deposits in those tissues.
  6. Fatigue

  7. Calcium is involved in the contraction of muscles. Too much calcium can lead to fatigue and premature aging.
  8. Neurological Function

  9. Excess calcium can also disrupt brain function, which can lead to problems with vision and eye pain.
