Hand Weeding Tools

There are many types of hand-weeding tools, depending on which purpose they will be used for. While all are used for weeding, there are scrapers, cutters, weeding tools to be used around cracks and pavement, and weeding knives. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Scrapers

    • Weed scrapers are formed from a metal blade welded to a long metal rod. Gardeners use scrapers to scathe at the ground and remove weeds with the blade, or to remove large clumps of weeds with the sharpened metal rod.

    Cutters

    • Weed cutters are usually formed from a piece of thin metal in a particular shape (popular shapes include a "c"or "j" shape) that are used to slice the root of the weed. Most are made with a wooden handle, which makes them durable but can also cause hand pain with extensive use. There are also cutters that have rubber or plastic handles for more flexibility.

    Pavement Tools

    • Because weeds can grow anywhere, weeding tool manufacturers have designed tools that are to be used especially around concrete pavement, decorative stones and patios. A triangle hoe is just like a traditional hoe, except smaller. It is a triangular piece of metal embedded into a wooden handle. The triangle hoe is excellent to use when weeding the lines near pavement, decorative stones and patios.

    Weeding Knives

    • Weeding knives are sharpened tools that are used exclusively for gardening. They can be used to scrape, cut or weed around pavement, and are the most versatile of the hand-weeding tools.

    Hands

    • Surprisingly enough, one of the most frequently used hand\-weeding tools are exactly that: a gardener's hands. When weeding around delicate plants and flowers, it is sometimes best to uproot the weeds by hand than risk damaging surrounding plants with a metal tool.
